Northern California Innocence Project Fund Raiser

Media tales of exoneration conclude with the happy ending of justice finally served, but for the wrongfully convicted freedom is just the beginning of a new struggle. Exonerees are left with nothing when they are released and many must stay with friends and family while trying to rebuild their lives.

Help the Northern California Innocence Project work to create jobs for exonerees through our new speakers bureau program. By making a financial contribution to the program, you can make an immediate difference in the lives of these innocent men and women transitioning from a life in prison to the workforce. Our goal is to raise $5,000 this month. Help us reach that goal by donating today.

Your gift is doubled by a matching grant. A generous donor is matching each donation to the first $5,000 donated, so double the impact of your gift—make your tax-deductible donation now!

Nikki Pope

National Center For Reason and Justice

The National Center For Reason and Justice (NCRJ) was incorporated in 2002 to help community groups set up tax-deductable defense funds for the wrongly accused. The IRS does not grant 501(c)(3) status to groups established to help a specific individual. The IRS has declared the NCRJ exempt from federal income tax because it is an educational organization that is also committed to protecting the civil rights of all accused persons. NCRJ is an organization that can and does make donations to community groups working for specific prisoners. You may suggest that your funds be used to help one or more of the people whose cases their Board has approved for sponsorship.

The Constitution Project

The Constitution Project (TCP) founded in 1997 is working to reform the nation’s broken criminal justice system and to strengthen the rule of law through scholarship, consensus policy reforms, advocacy, and public education. Some of the issues they hope to reform are:  providing competent counsel to criminal defendants that are unable to afford lawyers; convicting innocent people and sentencing them to death; erosion of privacy rights and civil liberties post-9/11; and indefinite detention without charge of terrorism suspects. They also are seeking to reform sentencing laws that fail to provide due process and are racially disproportionate; advocating to update our laws to ensure that modern communications technologies are still covered by constitutional safeguards; and scrutinize the fallout of “tough on crime and terrorism” policies.
